Rotomolded pickleball is made from PE material and formed integrally through the rotomolding process. After being drilled by a drilling machine, it has 40 holes. Rotomolded pickleball is known for its high flight stability and is mainly used for outdoor competitions and training.

The Production Process of Rotomolded Pickleballs

Raw Material Preparation

Appropriate plastic powders are selected as raw materials. Commonly used one is polyethylene (PE). These raw materials have good fluidity, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties, which can meet the usage requirements of pickleballs.

Loading and Closing the Mold

Add the measured plastic powder to the bottom of the mold, making sure it is evenly distributed to avoid local accumulation.Close the upper mold and the lower mold tightly together and install them on the support shafts of the rotomolding machine.

Heating and Molding

Place the mold containing materials into the rotomolding oven. Heat with hot air while the mold rotates around two perpendicular axes. After reaching the set temperature, maintain it as the materials melt and coat the mold's inner wall. Gases within the materials are expelled until the pickleball part is fully formed.

Demolding and Post-treatment

After cooling is completed, open the mold and take out the pickleball. Perform necessary post-treatment on the demolded pickleball, grinding and polishing the surface to improve the surface quality and appearance smoothness of the pickleball.

Drilling

Secure the ball with a clamp to ensure stability and accuracy during the drilling process. Activate the drilling machine and adjust the drill bit to the appropriate rotational speed and feed rate. It is important to maintain stability of the drill bit during drilling to avoid deviation or damaging the ball.

Quality Inspection

Use testing tools to conduct quality inspection on the pickleballs. The inspection items include the size of the sphere, weight, hardness, appearance quality, etc. Ensure that the pickleballs meet the specified standards and requirements, and remove the unqualified products.

Comparison Between Rotational Molded Pickleballs and Injection Molded Pickleballs

Performance and Characteristics
Rotational Molded Pickleballs
Injection Molded Pickleballs
Weight and Flight Stability

Generally heavier, providing better flight stability and accuracy, suitable for players seeking precisioan.

Lighter, making them easier to handle, especially for beginners and indoor play.
DurabilityKnown for their hardness and resistance to wear, offering consistent flight trajectory and rebound, ideal for competitive play.
While durable, the fusion line (where the two hemispheres are joined) can be a weak point, potentially making them more susceptible to damage in heavy use.
Elasticity and Friction
The material provides good rebound, enhancing the challenge of the game.
The smooth surface and texture may offer better friction and control for beginners.
Application Scenarios
Suitable for various levels of competition and training, including schools, communities, clubs, and tournament venues.Preferred for outdoor use or in situations requiring high-intensity play due to their durability and stability.
Ideal for beginners and indoor use.Lightweight and easy to play, making them suitable for casual entertainment and light training.
Price and Cost
Higher cost due to the complex rotational molding process and high-quality materials used.Generally priced higher on the market, but offer good value for money due to their durability and performance.
Lower cost due to the highly automated injection molding process and large-scale production capabilities.Typically priced lower, making them accessible to beginners and budget-conscious consumers.
In summary, rotational molded pickleballs and injection molded pickleballs differ significantly in manufacturing process, performance, application scenarios, and price. When choosing, consumers should consider their own needs, playing environment, and budget to make an informed decision.
